Tips to Purify Your Drinking Water

Clean drinking water is something that many people in more advanced countries can take for granted. However, if you find yourself in a situation where you aren’t sure you can trust your drinking water then you need to know what to do in order to avoid getting sick.

Buy Your Drinks Sealed

Your first option is to simply buy water and healthy drinks that you know are safe. Bottled water has to pass safety checks, and as long as the cap is still sealed then you know the water is safe. Other healthy drinks include pouched juice like Capri Sun, as well as any kind of canned drink like soda, iced tea or juice. Any kind of beverage that’s sold already sealed is typically safe for drinking.

Always check the seals, and always request that your drink be brought to you sealed. This can be important in restaurants where even the ice they use in a glass could be contaminated. It’s better to be safe than sorry.

Boil Your Water

If you can’t buy drinks, or you don’t want to pay the cost of constantly getting your drinking water for a fee, then you can purify your water yourself. All you need is a pot and a stove, along with water and a pinch of salt or two for flavor.

To purify your own water place the pot on the stove and fill it up with water. Add a pinch of salt and then turn on the fire. Let the water come to a boil and watch it carefully. If there are impurities in the water they’ll bubble to the surface, and you have to skim them out. Always let the water boil for a minimum of three minutes to be sure that you’ve killed any germs and that any contaminants have been boiled up and out of the water.

When you’re storing boiled water always put it in a clean and sealable container. Never use the pot you boiled it in for storage. Always let it cool down before you drink it, and chill it if you want it to be extra refreshing.

Portable Water Filters

There are also a variety of portable water filters out there that are good for turning bad water into drinking water. Brita is perhaps one of the most famous and best trusted companies that specialize in making water filters, and they come in both portable and permanent varieties.

If it’s the water in your home or your area that you don’t trust, then you might want to invest in a Brita filter that is permanently attached to your faucet. If, on the other hand, you’re moving about or you want a portable filter then Brita also makes those. Water pitchers with a changeable filter are simple, easy to use and you can take them anywhere you go. These are perhaps one of the simplest solutions you can use to get clean drinking water wherever you are as long as you change the filter.
